Slide Show Tips For Your Wedding

by Ernest Cox

Slide shows are a great way to entertain your guests at your wedding reception. It can get a little boring in that period of time before or after dinner when there's a lull in your reception and there's only so much polite conversation to be had. The addition of the slide show can help not only conjure up a few laughs, but get your guests to reminisce about the past a bit as well. To keep your slide show from looking like something you created in elementary school, follow the tips below.

  • Photo Selection. Use photos of both the bride and groom from baby, pre-teen, teenage and adult stages. Use pictures of the bride and groom together, photos with family members and even some old pictures of your wedding party.
  • Song Selection. Add music to your slides how to make it a little more fun. You can use slow songs or fast paced music, but keep in mind that the slow songs may end up putting your wedding guests to sleep. You should use at least two songs for your slide show.
  • Keep It Evenly Paced And Concise. Keep your photos moving so they are shown only for a few seconds apiece. If you want to highlight a specific photo, you can pause a little longer on that particular photo. Also try to keep your slide show to about two songs, which would be about 5-6 minutes. Anything longer can get a little boring.
  • Limit Photo Transitions. If you are doing something fun when transitioning from one photo to the next,  be sure to limit the type of transitions you use. Going from a fade to a swipe to a breakaway transition can get dizzying after awhile. Limiting this will keep your slide show clean (and not require the use of anti-nausea medication).
  • Do A Pre-Reception Preview. Don't wait until the day of to look at how your slide show looks. Be sure to do a preview of your slide show and look at it on the equipment you will be using at your reception. This way you won't have any technical issues that you have to figure out on the spot.

Slide shows are a great addition to your reception, but not taking your time or throwing it together last minute can make it look a little tacky. If you are looking for a great slide show, but don't really want to take the time to put it together, it's best to leave it to the professionals. Contact a slide show service or talk to your photographer about a referral.

About Me

Finding the Right Photographer for Your Event

The best way to keep your special memories alive is to hire a professional photographer to capture them as they happen. But after working with hundreds of professionals over the years as a special events planner, I know first hand that not all photographers are created equally. Some can really focus in on their human subjects to capture emotion that comes right out of the photos, while others are more attuned to making the surroundings in a photo stand out like a 3D feature. So I figured that I could help people who are looking to hire a photography find the best possible fit for the occasion that is going to be documented. Learn the right questions to ask, find out what types of skills to look for, and figure out what tools and resources are needed to capture all the details of your special event.
