Weddding Photos That Compliment Your Personal Style

by Ernest Cox

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. It is also one of the times in your life that you will look your absolute best. And everyone who is special to you will be there, looking beautiful as well. No wedding is complete without a photographer who is there to capture the magic that happens when you join forces with your favorite person while your family, friends, and loved ones cheer you on. But how do you find a photographer that speaks to your personal style? If you don't want to settle for generic wedding photos, there are several ways to ensure that the wedding photographer you choose will be able to capture your special day with a look that complements you and your fiance's personal style.

Finding the photographer

Look through friend's wedding photos

Most wedding photographers get jobs through referrals. If you see a look or technique in your friend's wedding photos that catches your eye, be sure to ask who the photographer is.

Attend a wedding expo

A wedding expo will have dresses, caterers, florists, and photographers displaying their wares. You can get a feel for different photographers' styles and your personal rapport with each one by visiting their booths at one of these expos. Bonus: you can meet a lot of photographers at the same time instead of visiting each photographer's website.

Browse the internet

If you can't attend an expo, then peruse your local phone book or the Internet to compare photographers.

Picking the photography style

Look through magazines

Once your have your photographer picked out, start combing through books and magazines to find poses and styles of photography that you like. You don't have to limit this search to wedding magazines. Fashion magazines and catalogs can be an amazing resource as well.

Decide on a type of style

There are a few different styles that have been used for wedding photography in the last few years and continue to be popular. There are also lots of new techniques and styles emerging as well.

Journalistic style

This has been a favorite for a while. This type of wedding photography gives a behind-the-scenes feel rather than overly stuffy and formal wedding photos. Many people choose to do a mix of journalism-style photos and posed wedding party photos.

Camera filter

With the rise of camera phones that can add filters to all of your photos for a certain look, many brides and grooms are choosing to have wedding photos that have a nostalgic feel to them through the use of filters that mute colors in photos.

Noir

All black and white wedding photos are dramatic and an instant classic.

Fashion

Fashion spread type photos are fun and glamorous.

About Me

Finding the Right Photographer for Your Event

The best way to keep your special memories alive is to hire a professional photographer to capture them as they happen. But after working with hundreds of professionals over the years as a special events planner, I know first hand that not all photographers are created equally. Some can really focus in on their human subjects to capture emotion that comes right out of the photos, while others are more attuned to making the surroundings in a photo stand out like a 3D feature. So I figured that I could help people who are looking to hire a photography find the best possible fit for the occasion that is going to be documented. Learn the right questions to ask, find out what types of skills to look for, and figure out what tools and resources are needed to capture all the details of your special event.
